There is a lot to say about Gran Canaria, due to its diverse possibilities. Starting with the natural aspects, a huge difference can be seen between the north and the south of the island. While the south is rather desert like, the north is covered in beautiful mountain ranges. Along the way many secret and not too touristy places can be discovered. Concerning the activities one can do there, one of the most widespread aspects is watersport. Especially windsurfing is practiced in Gran Canaria – it is even considered one of the best spots for windsurfing worldwide. Other popular water activities include scuba diving, surfing, or sailing. Another highlight in the waters south of the island is the chance to spot dolphins and whales. The pleasant temperature all year round also allows many more activities such as biking, hiking, horseback riding or simply relaxing on the beach. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a vibrant port town and other cities like Arucas or Teror are worth a visit. Of course cultural aspects can be found as well, such as historic towns, museums and churches.
