The region of La Rioja is well-known for its wine routes and its delicious and far distributed wines. With more than 500 wineries it is a perfect area to taste the finest wines while travelling the beautiful area around Logroño, the capital, or other charming towns like Ezcaray, Elziego, or Cenicero. The region is full of history, for example footsteps of dinosaurs have been found and the first written words in the Spanish language are said to be written in the Monasteries of Yuso y Suso, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites definitely worth a visit during the trip. Santo Domingo de la Calzada is a municipality in La Rioja, located next to the River Oja, which is the origin of the region’s name. The pilgrims pass this area on their Way of St. James.
