Las Ramblas

This is the iconic tourist district of Barcelona and it is one of the top places to visit in Barcelona. Plaça de Catalunya is really the heart of the city, as well as Las Ramblas. Here you can unwind with a coffee as you people watch before exploring the streets of the area. It is impossible to decide which street is the best, as all of them have their own charm. Each street is packed with boutiques, designer stores, cafes and restaurants. However, if you have to narrow it down, try to visit Mercat de la Boqueria, which is the city’s most famous market.

 

Barri Gòtic

This is the real centre of the old town. It is also one of the visually arresting sites to visit in Barcelona.The buildings date from the 14th and 15th centuries and you can easily spend a day here exploring. La Seu is one of the more famous landmarks in the city and is the official cathedral. It has a beautiful garden and a particularly impressive cloister. There is also a museum dedicated to some Dalí sculptures, and the Barcelona History Museum. Both of these are excellent and well worth the time. The real draw however is walking the streets and taking in the magnificent buildings.

 

La Ribera

This is truly one of the hippest neighbourhoods to visit in Barcelona. It has exploded with bars, cafes and restaurants in recent years. It also houses the Museu Picasso, one of Barcelona’s real highlights. Here you can some of his earliest works, as well as depictions of Barcelona itself. The museum is inside a medieval palace and is the home of the majority of his works. You can also stroll along the Passeig Del Born, which is one of the city’s coolest streets. The famous Mercat del Born is also here. Whilst you cannot shop here anymore, the structure of the old market is quite beautiful.

 

Barceloneta

This is most famous for it’s beach and relaxed vibe. It is one of the best places to visit in Barcelona if you want to disconnect from the main city for a while. The streets are quaint, surrounded by the harbour and the beach. It is all extremely well preserved and rustic. You can also try the cable car, which connects Barcelona’s two harbours. The cars stop at the two towers, Sant Sebastíà and Miramar, providing an excellent view over the city. Many locals and tourists alike come here to kick back on the beach, so take the chance to relax.

 

La Sagrada Familia, the most iconic place to visit in Barcelona

No visit in Barcelona is complete without seeing some of Gaudi’s masterpieces. Whilst the cathedral remains unfinished, what has been completed is jaw-dropping. You can see the three façades, one of which is still under construction, based on Biblical themes. There are also eight towers, symbolising the Apostles, Evangelists, Mary and Jesus. By the time the cathedral will be finished, there will be eighteen towers. There is a museum attached to the Sagrada Familia, which provides some insight into the construction and the artist.

 

The Eixample

This district is the famous to visit in Barcelona for shopping. However, there are also some museums here, as well as Gaudi’s Casa Batlló. This construction almost appears as if it was created from water, with wave-like forms decorating the exterior. It is worth visiting the interior, just to escape into a magical world for a while. There is also the Egyptian Museum of Barcelona, with artefacts collected from ancient Egypt. Art lovers will also appreciate the Museu del Modernisme Català.
