Benalmádena in the Costa del Sol. Andalucia

The town of Benalmádena covers an area of almost 30 kilometres and extends from the Sierra de Mijas down to the coastline of the Mediterranean.

Located between the towns of Torremolinos and Fuengirola, Benalmádena is just 19 kilometres from Málaga Airport and is connected to all of the coast’s major resorts by the local train and bus services.

Rich in attractive beaches, gardens, theme parks and a stunning marina, Benalmádena is one of the most popular tourist resorts on the Costa del Sol.

Benalmádena Pueblo is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malaga. The town, which has retained the ambience of a sleepy white Andalusian village, is 280 meters above sea level. The old town is a maze of narrow, whitewashed cobble streets adorned with displays of coloured geraniums spilling out of wall-mounted plant pots. Traditional cuisine, local crafts and the remnants of several cultures, not to mention the stunning views and mysterious architecture, are just some of the attractions this small mountainside town offers.

Arroyo de la Miel
The picturesque town of Arroyo de la Miel is one of the three districts that make up the town of Benalmádena. Situated between Benalmádena Pueblo and Benalmádena Costa, this lively town is full of winding backs streets and pretty plazas that adhere to the old village way of life. It is one of the most popular destinations for tourists and also has a large British expat community.

The town offers every type of bar and restaurant imaginable and visitors can enjoy traditional Andalusian tapas, avant-garde cuisine and high-street coffee houses, especially in the pedestrianized Calle Blas Infante.

One of the most popular tourist destinations is the secluded Plaza de España, a delightfully tranquil square that is entered through the 18th century Portal de San Carlos, which bears the coat of arms of the town’s founder, Felix Solesio.

Benalmadena Costa
Overlooking the sea, separating Arroyo de la Miel with Benalmadena Costa are the beautiful gardens of La Paloma Park which covers over 200,000 square meters with a central lake where you can see many different types of birds, which are well cared for in these very beautiful surroundings. Inside the park is the Benalmadena Auditorium where many events are run throughout the year, including the Summer Music, Theatre and Dance Festival, which runs from the middle to the end of July. The Park also houses the Benalmadena Library, as well little bars, where you can rest and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.

When the sea front is buzzing and you feel like a quiet walk, this is the place to come. Next to the park is the Ferria Ground, where the annual town fair is held in the month of August. This is also where the weekly flea market takes place every Friday morning. Right beside the park is Selwo Marina, where you can see dolphins, penguins and exotic bird life, making a great day out for the family.

Down on the sea front is where the majority of the large hotels, aparthotels and timeshare apartments are located. Although the majority of the many thousand of tourists to this area tend to book a package holiday, it is popular to rent an apartment. There are also many shops, bars and restaurants, as well as the Museo de Arte (Museum of Art).

The main attraction and nucleus of night life is to be found in the huge award winning Benalmeda Marina, which also hosts many important sailing and sea sport events. Sea life Aquarium in Benalmadena Marina is a worthwhile visit for the whole family.
