Green Spain is the name given to a lush natural region in Northern Spain, stretching along the Atlantic coast from the border with Portugal to the border with France.

The region includes nearly all of Galicia, Asturias, and Cantabria, in addition to the northern parts of the Basque Country, as well as a small portion of Navarre.

The main native tree species of this biome are beeches and oaks. However, since the second half of the 20th century, in some areas (especially in coastal areas), native forests have been replaced by plantations of eucalyptus and Monterey Pines for its commercial exploitation in the paper industry.

The Pyrenees, which sometimes are considered in the same geologic system as the Cantabrian Mountains, were once included in Green Spain, even though the rainfall there has different patterns and the general landscape is more alpine rather than genuinely oceanic.

Laredo (Cantabria)
Our first stop on this trip along the Cantabrian coast bears the name of this fishing village that can boast of having one of those sunsets that leave everyone who sees them breathless. Because of them, because of its beaches and its attractions, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in this area of northern Spain in the summer season.
It is mandatory to spend a morning, an afternoon or the whole day on the beach of La Salvé, which with its 7 km of extension is ideal to rest or start in some of the water sports such as surfing, very common in this area of the coast. Among your essentials in Potes you should aim to stroll through its historic center, visit the Torre del Infantado, see the Church of San Vicente, cross some of its bridges, visit the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana and climb the Fuente Dé cable car, whose wonderful views you will remember for life.
