Torrox was a very prosperous town during the Moorish occupation and pivotal in the silk trade that ran between Granada and the East.

The town clings to a steep slope and has retained its Moorish feel, with its whitewashed houses and pretty narrow streets. It is also boasts a beautiful view down to the coast.

The main plaza, or square, is popular meeting place for locals and a lovely spot to sit and watch the world go by.

There was once a Moorish castle that sat above the village, but sadly it was destroyed. There are some interesting architectural examples, including the 16th century Mudejar church of Nuestra Señorea de la Encarnación and the Shrine and Convent of the Virgen de las Nieves. There is also an 18th century hospital building and 19th century sugar factor.

Beaches
The beaches of Torrox costa are just 4 kilometers away and enjoy golden sands and good amenities.

Morche beach
It is one of the best known coves in Torrox. It is the westernmost of the municipality and is located between the veleña Lagos beach and the Playa de las Lindes.
Its extensive surface, a kilometer and a half long and a considerable 50 meters wide, is made up mainly of fine dark sand and is usually a highly recommended place for bathing and family rest thanks to the gentle waves.

Lindes Beach
It is also known as Playa de los Llanos and, ironically, as Playa del Cenicero.

As it is known, Las Lindes beach has a sandy area of around 1,400 meters and a width of 40 meters that extends from the Manzano stream to the Barranco del Mascuñar.

Ferrara Beach
It is the only torroxeña beach that proudly has a Blue Flag that certifies its quality.

Ferrara beach is a wide cove of fine dark sand and moderate waves, 1,300 meters long and 30 wide, which houses the highest percentage of concessions and catering and leisure facilities, both seasonal and fixed, between the Barranco del To blink on the beach of Las Lindes and the lighthouse of Torrox.

Peñoncillo Beach
It is a long sandy area of more than a kilometer and a half and 30 meters wide that, although it is attracting more and more interest from visitors, it is still an enclave far from apartment buildings and heavily populated places.
It is ideal for those who prefer to investigate less crowded spaces, or for those who simply seek a bit of isolated rest in a place where they do not have to contemplate the achicharras parrots of the drunk guiri that last night was spent with the mojitos.

Calaceite beach
Small and sheltered, Calaceite beach is a highly recommended cove to visit with respect; a highly recommended experience if you are looking to spend a quiet time in a natural environment.

Outside of buildings or apartments, Calaceite beach runs parallel to the national highway, but sheltered under the protection of winding mountains.

With dark sand, 400 meters long and 40 meters wide, this protected area is an open secret with low visitor presence. In fact, its services are not those of an urban beach, as we can find elsewhere in Torrox and the rest of the Costa del Sol.

The surf is moderate as a general rule and the bath is extremely pleasant, which makes it a good option for leisure, sports and family rest on the Torroxe coast.
