The Algarve definitely has it all. The beachfront resorts, stunning water, party vibes and rich Portuguese culture make it an amazing vacation destination. When you travel to Algarve it is an experience all its own. It’s a getaway that you’ll never forget. So, what should you do? The Algarve is a very diverse region, with luxurious tourism combined with secluded relaxation. With so many things to do, it can be hard to decide what type of vacation you want to go for. Luckily, some of these tips should offer you some guidance. Here are some must see destinations if you’re planning a trip to the Algarve.

Faro

Faro doesn’t have flashy resorts like the rest of the Algarve, but it still has charm. Travel to Algarve would not be complete without visiting this area.  It welcomes you with colorful pink and yellow edifices, aromas of bacalao and piri piri chicken and sea birds chirping in the sky. If you want authentic Portuguese culture in the Algarve, this is where to get it. Visit the famous Capela de Ossos Bone Chapel a chapel built from the bones of monks—a creepy, yet amazing sight to see.

Faro Beach

There’s one thing the Algarve’s definitely known for and it’s the beach life. Unlike some of the resort towns in the Algarve, Faro Beach is one where you can avoid the touristy crowds. It’s only a 20 minute bus ride from Faro, operating on regular scheduled line to the beach. Lay out on the seaside’s long stretch of golden sand and admire the turquoise serenity of the Atlantic Ocean. Here, try some water sports like windsurfing and sailing or simply play in the waves.

Lagos

Lagos is a town with Portuguese charm and relaxing holiday vibes. If you want to have a beach style holiday when you travel to Algarve, you can make sure to visit Lagos. Situated on the coast of the Western Algarve, Lagos boasts a rich Moorish past and a lively local culture. Its ancient walls overlook a glorious harbor estuary and the bars provide endless fun. Enjoy a pitcher of sangria or a mojito before diving into crystal blue waters. The beaches of Lagos make the scenery what it’s worth. They are surrounded by gorgeous rock formations that tower over the crystal clear water and sand. Visit during the summer and you’ll surely have the time of your life.

Albufeira

If you really want to crank up the party vibe, visit Albufeira, the Ibiza of Portugal. If you travel to Algarve and want to see the nightlife, this is the place to be. White houses and azure green coastline welcome lively tourists day in and day out. At night, you can find them buzzing away at bars and clubs. They’re talking, eating and rejoicing over their wonderful vacations, partying endlessly throughout the night. So, if you’re looking for a destination for your next bachelor or bachelorette party, Albufeira should be on your list. Not a partier? You can still find fun, daytime family activities in this beautiful town. There’s dolphin-watching, cave exploring, and even pirate ship cruises marketed to tourists. So, take advantage of the Abufeira’s lovely ocean views and spend time with your loved ones.

Ria Formosa

Visit one of the gorgeous 7 natural wonders of Portugal, only a short bus ride from Faro. The Ria Formosa is a bright blue lagoon protected by 5 barrier-islands and 2 peninsulas. If you’re a bird-watcher, this wonder should definitely be on your bucket-list. It’s one of the most important areas for aquatic birds in Portugal, hosting more than 20,000 birds during the wintering period on a regular basis. Tours here run about 35 plus euros per person, but the sights are worth the price. Take in all of the splendor as you set sail on a boat to the beautiful barrier-islands and peninsulas.

Praia Da Marinha

Praia da Marinha is a gorgeous wonderland of orange limestone that rises majestically out of turquoise blue waters. Considered by the Michelin Guide as one of the top ten beaches in Europe, Praia Da Marinha is a small stretch of rustic sand in the middle of the Algarve coast. It’s one of the most secluded beaches in the Algarve, which makes it one of the most sought after attractions in the region. Though it lacks facilities due to its seclusion, it’s a haven that you can’t miss.

Get some relaxation and a breath of fresh-air from the touristy crowds for a day and have some fun.
